Everyone has great expectations fort he holy 31st of December. What are your plans? Ooops! Don’t you have a plan? Are you just going to sit at home, watch TV, eat chips and drink beer? Countdown from 10 as the clocks are striking 12.00? Victoria’s Secret show? Confess it! There is no need to be ashamed. I’m sure each and ever one in your circle of friends or people at your Office have had such NYEs.
I’ve decided to avoid any sort of expectation for the NYE. Here is why…
Almost a month before the holy day, I start looking for a venue. Then after finding an “incredible” venue, I share it with my friends that I want to be with on the NYE. The replies I receive are like:
“Too far away.. The taxi will cost to much. Are we actually even going to be able to find a taxi that will take us there?”
“I hate that place. It would be damn crowded and we’ll suffer!!”
“You’re joking right? It’s way too expensive. I won’t pay that much money for some cold food and diluted alcohol?”
Are any of there familiar? Here’s my best:
“My ex boyfriend and his new boyfriend will be there. I’m sorry I’m not ready to face such a scene.”
As a result, I usually end up being with my family abroad or at a friend’s house. Both are always good options but still…
Going abroad with your family has its upsides and downsides. Being in another country, whether its NYE or just another random day, always raises my level of energy and happiness. Finding an “incredible” venue for dinner is again a dramatic problem, but since you’re already paying a fortune for the accommodation, you are OK with a relatively modest venue for the dinner.
The concept of “friend’s house”… There are times I’ve suffered from it and there are times I really enjoyed it. If you are planning to stay at your friend’s house, then airbed may even be a luxury. Cleaning the house altogether at 8.00 am in the morning? It’s sort of a torture especially for the guys. Still, being at a friend’s house is a lot better than having people come to your own place.
Luckily, this year I’ll be in Dubai with my family. Since my sister lives in Dubai, there is no accommodation cost. Yet, we did go through the dramatic journey of finding “the” venue and pushed the boat out 🙂
I wish you all a great New Year and no worries if you’re staying at home this year!
