Prototype your designs! It is cheap, fast, easy and effective. Whether it’s only a paper sketch done in 30 seconds in your notebook or a high quality mockup created by an app or software, creating prototypes is a significant part of the design process. We usually conceptualize things in our heads in a mess, and prototyping helps us create and improve a design concept quickly and in an organized manner.
There are dozens of prototyping tools out there that would definitely enhance your design process. Today, I want to introduce you a new prototyping app that integrates paper prototyping and mobile: POP
For a large number of people in the design world, designing in the browser is a popular and efficient concept. Unlike the majority, I prefer the traditional way: pen and paper. It’s the still the best way, for me, to execute my ideas.
On the other hand, paper prototyping itself is not enough, especially if you are working on a team. Somehow, you have to share your drawings with others.
The mobile app POP, developed by Woomoo, takes the stage at this point by helping you to bring your sketches come to life and become interactive. Here is how it works:
- Simply sketch out your ideas
- Through the app, take pictures of your sketches (you can position and crop)
- Link the screens to each other by assigning buttons and create a functioning mock-up
- Share your mock-up via messages, email, Twitter and Facebook
Overall, POP is a brilliant tool to visualize app ideas. The only downfall of the app is that it’s only available for iOS. I’m sure they’ll soon develop Android and Windows phone versions!
