Why Are We Addicted To Candy Crush?

Whether you were at your best friend’s wedding, in the toilet, working for an exam, at a funeral or dealing with your daily commutes; I’m sure you have, at least for once, secretly played Candy Crush. Admit it. You are addicted! Just like my parents, my best friend, my dentist, my hairdresser and me…

Released in April 2012 on Facebook, Candy Crush, the “match three” mobile game, has conquered our lives.

In couple of months, the game was converted to the smartphone format for people to play on the go. In 2013, the game has reached real prominence and as of March, Candy Crush Saga became the most popular game on Facebook.

The game still remains among the top freemium apps available in the app stores.

Here are some of the reasons that make Candy Crush so irresistible.

1. There Is Always Something New

While each puzzle is unique, the Candy Crush team creates new levels in every two weeks. Today, there are more than 500 levels.

2. No Game Over

You don’t fail on any single level.  When you first begin, you get five free lives. Once you run out of lives, you just have to wait in 30-minute increments to continue playing.  If you are impatient and want to pay right away, you can buy lives.  Unlike games like Tetris where you had to start all over again once you failed, Candy Crush only ends when you are done with all the levels.

3. You Can Play With One Hand (Or Even One Finger)

The game allows you to do multitasking due to the easiness of playing.  Moreover, you can drive your car with one hand and play Candy Crush with the other game. (I don’t recommend!)  Or you can play while holding a cup of coffee in your hand.

4. It Is A Social Escape Route

Suppose you are at a crowded room where you don’t know want to talk to anyone.  Candy Crush will be there for you right away!  It’s also a great stress reliever.

5. Brain Friendly

In order to solve a puzzle, you have to use certain logic when matching the candies.  A random match could also help you get to the next level, but its very unlikely.  So the game requires you to use your brain. (a little bit)

I’ve ignored Candy Crush for a long period of time, but around 4 months ago, I caved in to the game.  Nowadays, I spend around 1 hour, daily, on Candy Crush.  I hope my addiction won’t get even worse! God save us!
